Ground Cherry ‘Aunt Molly’s Ground Cherry’

Physalis pruinosa

The sweet cousin of tomatoes, this ground cherry produces an abundance of 3/4″ golden yellow fruits wrapped in a papery husk. The fruit is sweet and great eaten fresh or cooked into jams and pies.

Ground cherries or husk cherries require full sun and well-drained soil. They tend to sprawl and may require support from stakes or cages. Fruit is best harvested when golden and the husk is partially dry.
