Low, fine-textured foliage with metallic golden oat like inflorescences rising far above the foliage mound. Flowers emerge purple in early summer and gold seed heads persist into winter adding interest. Adds height without heaviness. Height 2-6'.
Stipa attracts birds to the garden. Prefers fertile, medium moisture well drained soil. Drought tolerant when established. Intolerant of winter wet areas. Cool season grass. Deer resistant.
