Beautiful spring flowering native with pure white blooms atop sturdy, straight stems. The centers of the flowers are oblong and mature into thimble shaped seed heads which remain after the blooms have faded and appear fully as the seeds mature and disperse. Leaves are divided into three parts and take on a reddish tint in the fall. Often found in moist meadows and in open wooded areas, this native is tolerant of a wide range of conditions, although prefers partial shade. Native bees are attracted to the flowers for pollen in spring. Similar to Anemone canadensis but is more shade tolerant with long leaf stalks while A. canadensis has no leaf stalks.
