Claytonia virginica (Spring Beauty)

Delicate spring ephemeral commonly called spring beauty, with slender leaves and small white to pale pink flowers striped with deeper pink. Emerges very early in spring, carpeting woodland floors before tree canopies leaf out, then goes dormant by early summer. Prefers moist, humus-rich soils in part shade and naturalizes well in woodland and lawn settings where mowing is delayed.
